Our Community 2013

Recent visitors during this mostly lovely summer have included our regular group of families,

and Sr Mary Stephen and Sr Mary Bernard of Minster Abbey,

who used to be in the same community as our Benedictine Sisters.

Geoffroy & Maxence
We said farewell to Johan and Océane,

but the French connection has continued with Geoffroy and Maxence, both working in Marymount.

Vous êtes bienvenus!

Allithwaite Carnival 2013Allithwaite Carnival paid us a visit on Saturday 13th July.

Barrow Male Voice Choir
The Barrow Male Voice Choir gave a lovely mixed concert in Chapel on August 11th, with the assistance of contralto Deborah Milledge.

Some Sisters have also enjoyed a couple of excellent concerts courtesy of the Grange Music Society - the violinist Jennifer Pike and the pianist Martin Roscoe.

A big thank you to them both for the music and for the raising over £440 for Marymount and for our African Orphanage.

The Thinking Faith week, on the topic of Faith and Truth, was particularly enjoyable this year.

We included walks near Cartmel and by Lake Windermere (along with a boat trip) as well as plenty of discussion, prayer and fun, all with a good film thrown in. For a full report, CLICK HERE.

We are already planning next year’s theme: Catholic Social Teaching, to take place from 2nd-9th August.

The regular programme of Marymount events have included recently singing with Sue and Victor, more songs led by Michael on his keyboard, and a minibus trip to Bardsey and Furness Abbey.

Fr David Duane
We thank Fr David Duane warmly on his retirement for all he has done as parish priest of Ambleside, our ‘holiday parish’.

We wish him every blessing on his return to Ireland,

and welcome Fr Kevin Dorgan, who will be taking over as parish priest of Windermere and Ambleside.

Fr Tom Quirke
Fr Tom Quirke, who spent his final few months in Marymount, died on July 22nd.

Fr Tom, originally from Ireland, had served in the diocese for many years, and his funeral was held at St Gregory’s Preston,

where he had been parish priest.

Mrs Margaret Sadeki
Margaret Sadecki, who had been a patient with us for eight years, died on 4th August.

Her funeral at St John’s in Flookburgh was very well attended by her family and friends, including many from Boarbank.

We offer our sympathy to her children and grandchildren.

Margaret’s courage, friendliness and cheerfulness have been an inspiration to many people during her time with us.

May they rest in peace.

Thank you to Sr Florence, Sr Michael, Sr Anne, Derek, Pat and Siobhan for the photos.

Future events

You are all warmly invited to join us in celebrating our patronal Feast of St Augustine on Wednesday 28th August at 10 am. Bishop Michael will be the chief celebrant at the Mass.

There are a few places still available for our remaining residential week, Thinking Scripture, from 5th-12th October. A full programme for next year will be out in the autumn. Any queries, please contact Sr Margaret
